The County of Los Angeles Public Library is pleased to offer thousands of eBooks through OverDrive - all free with your library card! Check out eBooks and read on a variety of computers and devices. All eBooks automatically expire so you'll never have overdue fines. Visit OverDrive Help for detailed instructions.

• Check out up to 15 titles at one time.
• Checkout period: up to 21 days. At the end of the checkout period, titles automatically expire. No late fees!

Amazon Kindle

Amazon Kindle Fire, Fire HD and Fire HDX:

• Read OverDrive's Online Instructions here
• Download the OverDrive Media Console from the Amazon Appstore or http://omc.overdrive.com/kindle
• Open the app and find the County of Los Angeles Public Library under Add a Library.
• Borrow a book using your library card.
• Find the book in your OverDrive account. You have three options to read the eBook:
  • Select Kindle Book and complete checkout on Amazon’s website with your Amazon account.
  • Select OverDrive Read eBooks to read right in the browser (if book is available in the OverDrive Read format)
  • Download the EPUB ebook to read in the OverDrive app (with one-time authorization of Adobe ID). Bonus: Use the OverDrive App to borrow and listen to MP3 audiobooks.

Amazon Kindle PaperWhite, Touch, and Keyboard eReaders:

• Read OverDrive's Online Instructions here
• Go to the library’s OverDrive website and borrow a Kindle eBook. If the title has holds, Place a Hold.
• Upon check out, click Get for Kindle and Amazon’s website will open. Enter your Amazon account.
• Transfer via Wi-Fi to your Kindle device or connect your cord for USB transfer.

Returning Kindle eBooks

You don't have to return eBooks - they automatically expire. If you finish your Kindle eBook early, you can return it before the due date so others can check it out. Online instructions from Amazon here (scroll to "return a library book" section).

Returning eBooks is completed through your Amazon account. Log into your Amazon account. Go to Manage your Kindle. Next to the title you want to return, click Actions for a menu of choices. Select Return This Book.

Download the OverDrive App for iOS devices to borrow and enjoy eBooks and MP3 audiobooks.

• Download the OverDrive Media Console App from the Apple App store.
• Open the OverDrive App and find the County of Los Angeles Public Library under Add a Library.
• Borrow eBooks using your library card.
• Find the borrowed eBook in your OverDrive account. You have three options to read the eBook:
  • Download EPUB eBook and MP3 Audiobooks directly to the OverDrive app (eBooks require an easy one-time authorization of an Adobe ID). Read the book in the App.
  • Select OverDrive Read (in your browser) to read right in your device's browser.

Barnes & Noble Nook (black & white), Sony Reader, and other eReaders

Barnes & Noble Nook (Black & White), Sony Reader, Pandigital, Literati eReaders can download EPUB eBooks and transfer them to your device.

One-time setup: Download and install Adobe Digital Editions on your Windows or Mac computer, and create an Adobe ID.

Browse, check out & download an EPUB book on your computer through OverDrive. Then connect the device to your computer with the cord and transfer the eBook to your device. Eject your device and enjoy your eBook!

Computer users (Windows & Mac):
