Sir:
Having understood that you are the proper officer of the United States to make application to for licenses and authority to trade with the Indians settled on the Reservation between the Chow-chille River and the Cow-ier, which is generally known as the first of the four creeks, Mr. James D. Savage and L. D. Vinsonhaler, both of Mariposa County, California, do hereby make application for licenses to trade with the Indians of said reservation, at such convenient please as you may hereafter designate with the bounds of said reservation. The amount of capital which we propose employing in trade, will be from eight to ten thousand dollars. The perons whom we wish to employ as clerks, and judge, Mr. B. Loews and William Randolfe, should we be deemed necessary to employ more capital in trade, or employ other perons in our business, the amount & names of the persons with any information you may require will be provided & furnished to you.
