In December 2014, a few weeks before his seventy-fourth birthday, former Vice President Dick Cheney invited Fox News reporter James Rosen into his northern Virginia home.   • As chief Washington correspondent of Fox News, James Rosen is one of the most celebrated, vilified and talked about reporters of our time.
    In May 2013, it was disclosed that the Obama administration had branded Rosen a criminal "co-conspirator," and a flight risk, in secret FBI documents submitted to a federal court. It marked the first time in American history a reporter had been designated a criminal by the federal government for doing his job, and the case sparked a nationwide debate over press freedoms in the Obama era. As a result of the ensuing furor, the Department of Justice revised its official guidelines for the treatment of reporters in national security leak investigations, and Attorney General Holder—who was found by the majority staff of the House Judiciary Committee to have testified falsely to the Congress about the matter— identified his conduct in "the Rosen case" as the biggest regret of his tenure as America's top law enforcement official.
    In sixteen years at Fox News, Rosen has covered the White House and State Department beats, and reported from Capitol Hill, the Pentagon, the Supreme Court, nearly all fifty states, and forty countries across five continents, including Afghanistan, Haiti, Iraq, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Uganda. His exclusives have ranged from the WMD programs of Iran and North Korea to the killings in Benghazi and the Bowe Bergdahl case; most recently, he disclosed the outdated and vulnerable software that Hillary Clinton was using to run her email server, and he conducted The Playboy Interview with Dick Cheney, an article that became a major news story unto itself, provoking over 600 million reports and comments in traditional and social media across the globe.

Rosen's articles and essays have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Harper's, The Atlantic, National Review and Playboy, among many other periodicals; and he is the host of the weekly online program “The Foxhole," a books-and-authors interview show whose guests have included such renowned writers as Tom Wolfe, Laura Hillenbrand, Graham Nash, Douglas Brinkley, and David Ignatius, among many others.
    Rosen's book The Strong Man: John Mitchell and the Secrets of Watergate (2008), which drew on tens of thousands of previously unpublished documents and tapes, received wide critical acclaim. Doris Kearns Goodwin said The Strong Man was "a terrific book both as biography and history...reads like a dream and catapults the reader back into that incredible time as if it were yesterday." Writing in The New York Times Magazine, the late William Safire said it was "the most revealing and insightful book I've read about that era...Pulitzer-quality biography." The Washington Post found The Strong Man "relentless" and "engrossing" and the Wall Street Journal ranked it among the ten best non-fiction titles of the year.
    Born in Brooklyn and raised on Staten Island, Rosen holds degrees from The Johns Hopkins University and Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. He lives in Washington with his wife and two sons.
