For Students
For Educators
  • OverDrive Read is a browser-based eBook reader that works on most computers, tablets, and mobile devices running up-to-date web browsers. OverDrive Read is available for most eBooks from your digital library.

    How to use OverDrive Read

Once you borrow a book, click or tap the Read button on your Bookshelf.

    Notes, highlights, and other features

OverDrive Read lets you add bookmarks, search for terms, add notes and highlights, look up word definitions, change the font size and style, and more.

As long as you have an active Internet connection, you can return to the eBook at any time during your loan and your place, bookmarks, notes, and highlights will be saved.

    Read offline

Select the Download button in OverDrive Read if you want to read it offline. Make sure to also bookmark or save the eBook's URL so you can get back to it in your browser once you're offline.

  • OverDrive Read provides simple access to eBooks for students.

Schools with one device per student

If your school is one-to-one or has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy, students can use OverDrive Read to start reading eBooks right away on their own devices, without the need to install software or apps.

    Schools where students share devices

If your school has a computer lab or shared devices, OverDrive Read provides a digital reading option that doesn’t require Adobe IDs, registrations, or device resetting. Because no software is required, there’s no limit to the number of students who can share one computer or device. Students simply log into your digital library, borrow eBooks, and click Read to begin reading.

    Multi-device support

As long as you have an active Internet connection, your place in an OverDrive Read eBook will be saved between reading sessions. This means that a student can start reading on a school device and then continue at home on a personal device. OverDrive Read is compatible with most computers, tablets, and mobile devices running up-to-date web browsers.

Using OverDrive Read in the classroom

Since OverDrive Read is browser-based, it saves valuable class time by having students read directly in their browser with one click—no activation or registration needed.

OverDrive Read also allows you to quickly pull up titles on overheads and SMART Boards (to review parts of speech or sentence structure, for example).

    Easy setup

Unlike other eBook formats, OverDrive Read doesn’t require downloads, activation, or registration. All you need to open an OverDrive Read eBook is a computer or mobile device with an Internet connection and an up-to-date browser. Once you’ve opened an OverDrive Read eBook, you can cache it so you can also read it offline.
